A crew of lumbermen sitting in a 16 ft redwood undercut. This captures the rough lives that these men had. For their intense labor, they were only paid a few dollars per day. That is around $1.50-$2.50 which is equivalent to about $37.50-$62.50 in today's value. An average salary would be about $400-$500 per year; translating to $10,000-$12,500. So yes, just from these numbers alone these lumbermen had a difficult job and probably struggled financially.
