Throughout the 1960s, land developers, timber owners, and lumber mill owners hired Shuster to take pictures of their construction sites. This had the additional benefit of allowing him to capture the ways in which the lumber industry irrevocably altered the local environment. Through his photography, Shuster reported on the devastating effects that commercial interests had on the community’s forests.
