Establishing The Redwood National Park
In this entry of Lucille's field notes we are able to see the passion she felt about the Redwood National Park. What she hoped to accomplish in this letter was to encourage people to visit national parks like Glacier Park in Montana.
Here Lucille wrote a rough draft of a letter to the Secretary of the Interior Stewart Lee Udall explaining how it was nessesary that a decision be made during that specific congressional session and could not wait to establish the Redwood Creek area as part of the Redwood National park. What Lucille showed was determination in ensuring the protection of the redwoods during this crucial point of the Redwood National Park's formation.
This draft from Lucille's journal showed her passion, as well as others in Humboldt County, to see the establishment of Redwood National Park. She wrote this letter to the Department of Beaches and Parks encouraging them to help protect the redwoods.
