Unrealistic Park Proposals Would Destroy the Economy of the Redwood Region
Redwood National Park (Calif.)
Humboldt County (Calif.)
Del Norte County (Calif.)
This article addresses the impact a park would have on the Humboldt economy. It cites that 70% of Humboldt’s economy and 90% of Del Norte’s are made up by the “forest products industry.” It explains the spike in taxes that would occur if a park were to be established, and also the massive loss of $13,000,000 in payroll. The author explains that 116,000 acres of new government owned parks is not feasible and that attendance of the already established parks is in decline. They also claim that California Redwoods are not in danger of extinction, writing, “Healthy, young commercial forest of redwoods guarantee redwoods forever”. The articles ends by telling the reader to advise their friends and family to see the already preserved redwoods for themselves so they can see in person what is already being protected, and to also write to congress and the senate in support of the Redwood Park & Recreation Plan.
